Hey hey! I won my first SCCA autocross trophy last weekend at the Midwest Divisional event in Kansas City driving my '89 325i in D Street Prepared.
I finished second in DSP, beating an '88 Merkur turbo by 4/10ths and getting absolutely smoked by a really well-driven, well-setup Subaru 2.5 RS. (Hey, I'm honest anyway, right? Besides, this is only my first full season! Those are just a couple of the many creative excuses I can offer. :--))
I'm working on left-foot braking, and had a funny thing happen.
I'm blasting up a long straight at the rev limiter in second and preparing for a hard left 180. I go for the whoa pedal with the left foot -- only I get the clutch by accident! =D>
OK, for those who haven't figured it out, the car DID NOT slow down!?! Instead, it shot off course right between two cones. Right foot found the binders. I got her turned around and back on course and wrapped up the run.
That left me with two runs to get it right. #*&@%!?
It was a freakin' blast. I can't bring myself to turn the Koni struts back down from full hard for my daily driving. Should I take my magnetic numbers off before I reinstall the baby seats? <jk> Of course not!
Nearly 190 drivers registered for the two-day autocross. Heats are set up so that classes run together. The course is changed for the second day of competition. Each driver's best times are combined for a total time to determine class standings.
It was cool,
