This is my new sub box. The spare tire area just happens to be the correct enclosure size for my subs.
I first put dynamat (the silver light version) sound deadening inside and coated it with several layers of fiberglass.
4 2"x3" blocks of MDF were secured onto the top walls of the well, and the top MDF part is then secured to the blocks.
I then fiberglassed ontop of the whole thing and siliconed the inside where it meets the car body. My fiberglassing skills leave much to be desired, but it works after some sanding. I'm going to put carpet over the whole thing.
I didn't want to add a lot of weight to my car with the stereo. The box only weighs around 5lbs, and the subs themselves are also fairly light weight.
Let me know what you think.

The whole point of my sterio is that it is fairly light weight. My subs are also very light. I don't think it will weigh the car down hardly at all.
You are right about the wheels though.
I was going to use the stock ones, but they won't fit over my mammoth brakes. I need like a 17 in the front, and maybe 16 in the rear?
Throw some mickey thompson et drags on the back and it's good to go.

Good question. I don't think too bad... but I haven't heard them in this car yet.
They always sound the best facing backwards. Bass likes the longest distance to your ear.

Thanks! I'll let you know when it's done. I think I will pick up the carpet today for the 'funk in the trunk'.

I'll take it to the local track on street tires as soon as I get it on the road. It kind of stucks though because it is 1/10th of a mile.
I'm not sure when I will be able to take it to a real track. Probably when I get some slicks.

the only thing bad about that is that it kinda makes your trunk useless. What are you going to do when you need to put something in there?

my sub uses the air tight trunk for a box. Surprisingly it works well.
The sub is a solo baric L7 10 inch so it demands a whole lot of air and i gave it all it needed.

i would assume that doenst sound very clean. small sealed box is all i would ever rock. tighter cleaner more accurate.
my stereo used to have 2batterys and 3caps. over 2000rms. and it was as clean as it gets.
what basicly rockin free air. that sub is designed for a decent box but no where near the size or ur trunk. how did u make ur trunk air tight?

I basically built a square tube of mdf wood and i screwed it right into the fire wall and knocked out that center peice so the back air comes straight from the trunk. Its not completely air tight but it works. I just recently added a box to the box to give it less air and better air tightness. :D So its prolly not the lightest but i still have yet to see anybody else do it.
