the caster is better, but not fixed yet, and I am still in search of the rear t-arms.

It definately looks better, but you might want to leave it that way with some positive caster.

Jay, have you considered Z3 arms, too? I would think they are more plentiful than 318ti arms.

Another thing I was wondering about, could you just buy new wheel bearings, rotors, calipers? I wonder if the 318ti wheel bearing would fit on the stock E30 arm....

I think the rear wheel bearings fit. I've heard of people filling the holes (welding) on the hubs and rotors, and redrilling them to the 5-lug bolt pattern. Doesn't sound great to me, as when you apply that much heat in a concentrated spot, your asking to warp the rotor. Even some wheel/tire shops have warped my rotors by tightening the lug-bolts too tight. After I put new tires on (that's the only time I take my car anywhere to have anything done..... I dont have a tire ballancer). I needed to replace my brake pads. I tried to get the lugs out, and broke a socket (cracked down the side). So just for laughs I put a torque wrench on them to see just HOW tight they were.....180ft/lbs! I went back to the tire place (Goodyear) and told them..... they bought me a new socket and replaced the rotors!!!!!

Where was that article on the guy who did the M3 Roadster suspension upgrade??? I know I saw it in here somewhere.

Hey 65Matt where in Atlanta do you live? I'm on the N.E. side.

There is no possible way to redrill the hubs in the front, the brake calipers won't even clear the hub of the 5 lug wheel. The hub centering ring on the 4 lug hubs is WAY smaller than the 5 lug hub. I have no idea if that would work in the rear...but I have my doubts.

Yes you can use z3 rear t-arms. the 2.8 t-arms have vented brakes, but will make the wheel stick out farther in the rear (or so I'm told). I have not been able to find eather 318ti or z3 parts. Frustrating.

Jay,

I'll check with my local BMW scrap yard (www.strictly-german.com) and see if he has any. I get free shipping from my work, so I'd be happy to ship them to you if he has them. Give me a list of stuff, and I'll check on it for you. I know this guy really well (My dad and I have bought 3 BMW's from him), and I know he does alot with the E36 stuff. He actually took a 318ti and put an S50/S52 in...... that thing was fast!

Anyhow, if you would like to give me a list of the stuff you're still lacking, I'd be happy to check on if for you.

What's so special about the 525 oil pan?

I guess since the E34 came with both the M20 and M50 engine, the use of the oil pan from a M50 equipped E34 would make it clear the subframe and other details in the E30 which never came with the M50. Something like that ;)

Jay, what did you end up doing in the front to get the caster fixed? E36 M3 control arms? I am gearing up for a 5lug swap so I am trying to accumulate all the parts.

Thanks!
