Let me know if you'd be interested in attending. I know there are a lot of us from the Tri-state/PA area, so I'd like to see a lot of you out there. If the weather holds up, it should be a fun time.
man,I am not a BMW CCA member...how much does it cost? I should just setup an auto-x with my friends...

Glad to see a bunch of interest in this event.
Jason, I don't think you have to own a BMW in order to participate. I could be wrong...
Drew, hope to see you make it and don't just spectate.
Martin, the cost is around $40 anually to be a BMW CCA member. I believe it costs $35 to participate in this event.

I haven't participated in CCA autox but in SCCA you need to pass saftey tech#1 if you battery isn't tied down you'll fail, you need to remove EVERYTHING loose from the car, including ezpass!. A helmet that passes the CCA's certification is required, i'm unsure if nj chapter provides loaner helmets.

It's not easy finding exact info for BMW CCA Auto-X events, or maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.
At any rate, maybe some of the guys who have had experience with BMW CCA Auto-X events can chime in.

For those of you who are curious the NJ CCA uses the boston chapter's point system but skews the classes based on points.
http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/events/2005/autocross-classification.asp?step=2&modelname=325i
go there to get the points based on improvements/additions/deletions for your car, then go to the njbmwcca forum and check the points classification thread. My 325i w/ upgraded springs/shocks/chip would put me in CS for bmwcca. In SCCA I'm in D SP or street prepared.
Hope this helps

I hope to get the timing belt replaced, and get the coolant system flushed with new hoses, by then.
It would be nice if there were still a few spots left to sign up.

sounds good, let me know. I dont even know if ill have my car by then. Im having trouble finding a machine shop that wont rip me off. First place said 275 plus whatever extra is needed, and now they want something like 800. However i dont fully know the whole deal, I only talked to my bro who talked to my dad who talked to my mechanic lol. so ill give my mechanic a call tommorow.
Chris
03-02-2005, 11:48 PM
I'll let you know.
Good luck with the machine shop.
I'd love to go, but there is no way they'd let me take the cabrio without a rollbar, and the old eta is no where NEAR tech standards :D

03-05-2005, 06:00 PM
Im pretty sure that they let cabs go w/o roll bar. I mean in the list of cars they have the cabs on there and it says nothing about a roll bar.

Just heard back and autoxing in a cab with no rollbar or anything is perfectly fine. well for bmwcca at aleast.

Nah, not really. There are usually a decent number of entries in D class, but it's not filled with national level autox'ers or anything.
If you're new, having a lot of people in your class is a good thing. It makes it easier to gauge your progress.
Last year was my first year at autox. I ended up doing all the NY and NJ BMWCCA events. It's worth checking out. Lots of time standing around, all for about 6 or 7 runs through the course, but its' a lot of fun.

Hey guys, I'll probably be there, I've been auto-xing with the NJBMWCCA for years now, lately I've been running my Jetta Wagon, but now that I have the M3 :D BMWCCA is much more laid back that SCCA, ride-alongs are allowed and you do not need a roll bar for a convertible. I used to run my 87 325ic with no bar. In fact we used to take fun runs with my friends 330 Cic with 4 people in it with the top down. If you are competing, when your group is not running, you have to work, which means you will stand out on the course with a flag and a radio and call in hit cones and standthem back up. Its a fun time and no body cares if you suck, just don't drive like an a-hole and take all the cones down :) They do have loaner helmets and just bought a few more. If it is your first time, I would suggest asking to have someone expierienced ride along with you the 1st time or two, very worth it. And you guys think your in trouble in D? I think I'm gunna be in E, i'm screwed! Oh and the best advise I ever got was do your breaking before the corners, not in them. You'll see the guys with the fastest make the least tire noise

I autocrossed with my 1991 325ic for a couple of seasons over on Long Island (NYBMWCCA). I drove that thing HARD and it didn't have a rollbar. Autocrosses are a blast. I plan to be there for the NJCCA opener with my 1988 325is. Does anyone know if I need to pre-register or something?
Chris
03-06-2005, 09:47 PM
I have no idea about the pre-register. At this rate, I'm hoping they'll let me sign up when I get there. :?
I'm still going no matter what, and it should be a good e30 gathering, nonetheless.

Looks like it'll be raining all day long. Works out better for me anyway, since I wanted to have the TB changed along with coolant hoses, thermostat, water pump, and fan clutch.
The next auto-x is on the 17th of next month. Let's hope the weather holds up for that one.
