well... marakka sold the steering rack i bought from him to alex...he said that he would get me another one, just pull one from a local yard... my question is what are signs to look for from a bad rack or one goin bad.
also are tehre any differences in the manual racks I IS and m-tech ect?
I have no idea about this.
I do not have manual racks in any of mycars and I have not bought any. Ever. I would not want to as the ratio on it is 4.5 turns. I'd rather go in opposite direction. Also you'll need a different steering link as they are different as well.
I got your voice mail last night, it was rather late to respond.

I've been looking for one of these as well, I can't find any. I think you can have somebody modify the rack though, not sure how but I would love to have a non-powered close ratio rack. If you find any information please post here :D

Yes, the E30 M3 has a quicker ratio than the i/is/e/es/318 rack. All others are similar or the same unless you find a manual rack from a '84-85 316i or 318i which would have a slower ratio. Different steering column hardware, also.
I have the E30 M3 rack in my 325is track car and like it a lot. Quite a difference over the standard 325 rack, especially on the track.
