View Full Version : Stock "I" & "e" dyno charts, anyone?

I'm curious to see where each of these M20's make their power, and how much, relative to each other. Does anyone have a dyno sheet of a stock "I" and a stock "e", or know where one might already be posted? I've been looking but no luck.

O.K, here's a dyno of a 2.7.
stock, it made a pathetic 92hp. (my jetta made more than that when I only had the header on. lol)

Looks like the 2.7 would have an advantige on take off untill 3.5 Rpms.... Then it's over!!

The stock Dohc 2.5 has 160hp btw.

WOW. could that 'i' be any more lean? :)

Okay, what's the dipped mean in "chipped & dipped w/o filter"?

He has a chip with no filter.
Don't know what dipped means though.
Maybe just trying to be funny like, "chips and dip" ????

I read somewhere that the "i" fuel system (in stock form) can only support 178hp (or somewhere there). So any mods, and your look at running out of fuel!

why would an E have an advantage from the start?

It has a ton of torque.

isnt stock ETA 121 hp?

bimmerjim®

at the flywheel yeah, that dyno is wheel hp if thats what your asking.

technicaly, the e has the same torque as an i. so there realy isnt any advantage that a stock e would have againsta an i racing across an intersection.

yeah, i remeber when my car was just filter, catback and chip, it would go lean at about 5800 rpm. never hurt it though.. kind of messed up how small those ingectors are stock. :(

daniel, dan was NOT impressed.
i think those are good numbers for a stock eta!

well if the only other E30 he's dynoed was yours then I'm not suprised.

Throwing mustang injectors in there sounds more critical all the time.

Plus, if I remember right, that's more whp per litre than his Impala. Or about the same anyway. Yeah, he'd probably still not be impressed. :)

he didnt say that he wasnt inpressed of course, i could just tell. hes usualy more talkitive than that. i realy dont think he had any idea of the stock power output of an e30. cause the only one hes seen was mine. :) heh.

Yeah I guess he doesn't have any fair comparison for how a stock one looks.

that's good to hear. I was a little afraid you don't spend enough time with her instead of under our cars.

take a closer look at the RPM scale... 2.5i is under 125 ft-lb before 3500 RPM. At this time, the 2.7 has more than 150 ft-lb. All the time lost to reach decent revolution with the i, the e had it from zero. I've read somewhere that the 2.7 has 130 ft-lb (crank) at 550 RPM (Idle!)

I used to drive both and you can feel a big difference in the easiness of the eta in a launch. plus you don't need to stress the clutch in repeated launchs since it has torque at very low end...

But when you reach 4000+ RPM with an i, you can feel the difference :-)
