Red face common faults in engine harness? no start

car is a 91 318is, 5spd, with a supercharger installed by some PO.
I bought the car non-running as a project, though PO claimed the car ran before fuel pump failed.

When I key on, all of the main relays and TPS and fuel injectors, and probably the coils start clicking like crazy. Starter does not activate, just a sad little click from the solenoid.

Any thoughts on common ground problems for the engine harness?
I have a new ECU in hand but have no t had a chance to swap it out yet.

thanks guys!

spdracrm3 is an unknown quantity at this point

whats the standing battery voltage? whats the voltage with a load on it (ie all lights ,blower wipers on?(does everything else in car work?)) if it drops below 11 volts need to charge it or have it tested . if its stays around 11.5 to 12v then its good enough to make engine turn over . next check voltage at the starter main cable lug (should have the same voltage here as at battery). what does voltage read while attempting to crank it? it wont crank with low voltage at starter and its possible you have a cabling issue (in the 325's there is a fuse link just up from battery in trunk that is common to corrode and fail) causing low voltage issues...not sure if there is one on the 318's

also there should be a substantial ground cable running somewhere from the chassis to the engine ,make sure its present and tight

Default Solved!

Replaced the ECU with an eBay one. Both 175's.
Car runs, still had to jumper the fuel pump relay though.

So success! Now to get the fueling sorted out before she melts down!
