Default to turbo??

Hello everyone.... ive just recently purchased a 1991 318is. It has the m42, and i wanna put a turbo on it, so my question is, will the m42 handle it without blowin itself up shortly there after?!?

Of course it will handle it. Try shooting a PM to e30guydownunder. He's had some fun with it. The basics of turbocharging are all the same. Do some reading in the turbo section of this place until you fall asleep with drool all over your keyboard. Do it for a week!

Sweet, just wanted to hear some reassurance, lol... and im not sure exactly.... wats a structurally safe, and extremely fun at of boost??? And i was thinking bout putting a new head gasket on just to be safe... i take it i should put a MLS on it???

You don't have to do anything to your engine apart from plan and execute everything correctly. Now get off this thread and spend your week in the turbo section.

Awesome!!! So, this brings me to one more question, before i go on a shopping spree here soon... anybody know of how many charge pipes i need?? And maybe the angle i need them bent at?? In definitely gonna run a intercooler down in the airdamn.. also wats a good size turbo for it?? Sorry bout all the questions just really not wanting to waste any money if possible. Lol

Hx35 turbo 10~15psi or smaller turbo if you want less lag
Cx racing intercooler kit with piping.
Mega squirt pnp
42-60lb injectors
Manifold adapter
Arp studs
Fresh oem head gasket.
A good clutch.


Have fun it's a blast.
