Will that fit in an iX? How does it compare to the other two we've been discussing?

You might want to think twice about the z4 version. Yes, the z3 1.9L fits but there's ~1/4-3/8" to the top of the t-case/transmission. I suggest that if you even think there might be an issue that you purchase both shifters and mount the longest one, raise up the transmission into position and move the shifter as if everything was installed. I know my Stealership will take back parts unused.

My thoughts on why Rob at UUC said that it wouldn't fit was because of possible degradation issues within the trans rubber mount. Me? Well, I went ahead and filled the trans mount with 3M Windo-Weld. Almost as good as a poly bushing without the vibration issues.

Now this could be all heresay, but certainly not to be taken with a grain of salt.

the Z4 3.0 shifter absolutely will not fit, it is simply too long - it hits the transfer case, you won't even be able to push it all the way into the retainer cup. I also tried the Z3 2.8, and it doesn't fit either.. the 1.9 is about as far as you can go with a stock BMW lever. it looks like the Z4 2.5 would fit but it would probably be very notchy and not actually improve your shifting times at all. it's also not bent in the same way as the ix shifter which might cause problems.

yes, I was hoping for the shorter ratio with a reasonably long shifter rod, but there was just no way. I am very happy with the Z3 1.9 though. the stock shifter is like something out of a truck..
