Default Rare '83 320iS for sale

1983 BMW 320iS, Hennarot with the dark grey cloth interior. The car is at Foreign Car Specialists at 1313 Regent Street, Madison, WI. This is my workplace. If there is anybody local to the Madison area feel free to come over and look at the car. Call at 608-255-3441 and just mention the 320iS.

Less than 2500 of these were produced worldwide, and this is one of the more desireable E21 models produced. The production date is 7/82. It has 197,886 miles on it.

The paint is Hennarot and is original. Which surprises me, because 320iS's were supposed to only be available in black, white, or silver. But the VIN checks out as a 320iS (BMW-NA confirmed) and the color checks out as the original color. It has the BBS front air dam and 5.5x13" BBS cross spoke wheels. It does NOT however, have the BBS rear spoiler, and there is no evidence that there was ever one there.

Inside, it has the black leather recaros (excellent seats BTW!) and the rear leather bench. The steering wheel is leather wrapped, as is the knob for the 320iS-exclusive 5 speed box. The car has air conditioning. Unfortunately, the dash is split in a few places, but that seems to be somewhat standard even in E30's. The car comes with black floormats. The rear popout windows work and latch even better than the ones in my E30. The windows in the front are manual crank, and they both go up and down and stay in the track. The tilt/slide manual sunroof does not work, but I think the guide cable is just disconnected or broken. There are aftermarket speakers wired up for the radio, but there is no head unit, not even the factory original.

Now for the bad news... The car unfortunately has a seeping head gasket. The engine is an M10. I got it to idle earlier, however the exhaust smelled a little like burning coolant.

Pictures will follow shortly.

Asking $600 for the car in its present condition.

Yup, I have pillaged more than one Henna 320is for parts. They make AWESOME parts cars for 2002's btw.

3.91 LSD
5-spd
recaro's
BBS
Steering wheel
etc...

I would suggest listing it for sale on the bmw2002faq.com For sale message board. someone will snatch it up.

Heh, we have a 2002 in the shop right now... if nobody wants to buy the E21, I might pillage it for some 2002 performance parts for the guy. He wants to build it up to an autocross car.

I managed to start it up earlier, and keep it at a steady 3000rpm (admittedly with my foot flat on the gas pedal...). But then it started blowing some hardcore smoke out of the exhaust, smelled like burning coolant. I actually think at least 2 cylinders are waterlocked with coolant so bad they won't fire. The engine would be perfectly fine with a small-scale engine rebuild and a new head gasket at the least.

If anybody wanted to, I suppose you could get it back on the road for less than $800 or so.

dhirsch: Yes there is rust on the car but not very much at all surprisingly. It's mainly centered around a few bubbles on the hood, and the rest is just bubbles on the passenger side rear fender. It's not broken through at all if I remember correctly. This car has an almost perfect original paint job, and it came to the shop about 6 months ago by and older couple who just didn't want to pay the repair bill. They signed it over to the owner of the shop, and its been sitting there since. I started there about two weeks ago, and today he mentioned that it was being hauled off to the junkyard because he didn't want to fix it. I called BMWNA about the VIN (I suspected it was an iS) and sure enough it was an iS. So now we have a somewhat rare E21 in almost excellent condition other than the head gasket. I thought I'd give you all a shot at it before it was hauled off to the boneyard. I'll try and grab pictures when I get to work tomorrow.

Does anyone know if the Recaros from the E21 are a direct fit into E30's? And also is the iS deep chin spoiler a direct bolt on replacement for my current '84 front lip?

I'm pritty sure that to fit the E21 Recarros in an E30 you have to swap the hardware also...sliding rails etc.
