Does the euro version of the m54 have pre and post cat o2 sensors? The US version has a catalytic conv. built into each exhaust manifold. Being a BMW tech, I think making this conversion for a street car would be very difficult, as you would probably have to retain the DMTL/LDP system (pressurizes the fuel system to find leaks) to comply with emissions standards of the engine/year. Maybe making the system operate like an OBDI-like system using European parts would be an easier route?. just my 2 cents. It would be a bitchin swap if you could get your hands on a 330i ZHP engine (performance package=bigger cams-different DME software-more "stock" horsepower). If I remember right the 330i ZHP cams retail around $600 each at my work. Another thought, if you can get this swap to work, how much harder could the S54 be? All I need is a wrecked MZ3 w/ a S54!!!! I'm gettin a chubby just thinkin about it!

I was thinking about doing an s54 swap now that they're starting to decrease in price some.
Anyway... if one were to do this with an AEM EMS would it simplify the wiring harness merger ? what did you have to do to get the speedo/tach working or is that just plug & play ? would this be an easier swap on an e36? Any help with this idea would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, -foo1 |
