I have been busy over the last month and a half
Friday Well day two saw me bolt the motor, clutch, gearbox and slave together and ready to drop in to the chassis. I dropped it in and got started on making a gearbox mount as it was the more complex unit to make and really the most key component. The gearbox mount was done by modifying both the BMW crossmember and the stock sr20 gearbox mount. Further to that, a 35mm spacer was made to raise the rear of the gearbox to point it toward the diff and keep uncancelled driveline angles to a minumum. Monday Okay so I made up some mounts today. I used the cheapest mounts repco had which looked like they would suit. I have to still trim the mounts and clean them up for painting, so they definatly dont look pretty. It was also done on a gasless mig, so leave me alone. The gap. The engine was positioned with a gearbox lifter while the car was on the hoist. Test fitting Propper fitted Engine in place The engine sits so low, to keep the centre of gravity down but to also allign the gearbox better. Only problem is that the engine/gearbox (at the bell housing) rubs on the front sway bar, but I will cut out 2 rectangles of 10mm plate and space it from the chassis where it bolts Only 3 days work so far too. Hoist tends to help too I have a lot more pictures at http://www.dairally.net/e30/E30SR/files/im...onversion-pics/ EDIT: forgot to mention the plates Yesterday afternoon I had a crack at making an exhaust. Using a tri-flow 3" muffler but allowing much more room for more mufflers and a CAT if need be. Front section from dump to middle section Next was the prop/tail shaft. I just got measurements and took it to my fiendly local tailshaft dude. I then fit a VL turbo fuel pump bro, hopefully this will make my dose worthy of a VL calais cruise ![]() Comming this weekend will be the brakes and clutch setup, and tidy up the engine mounts. Oh Glenn, change of plans :P So I got the car towed home on monday, because I was being to lazy to drive to the workshop to do any work Today I slapped in an EVO cooler, one of a few I had my pick from. Piping sneaks between chassis rail and head lights, behind the bumper pannel. It then has pretty much 1 or 2 bends to go where it needs on the engine. I am fairly happy with the directness of the piping, and the EVO and 2.5" piping should keep spool up and lag to a minimum. 2.5" stainless tacked up for now. I will get it tig'd up later once I am sure it will all fit nice with radiator hoses and airbox piping on the hot side. Update! The intercooler, radiator piping and tapet cover have been sorted out. As has all the vacuum lines, ICS and airbox. The wiring has taken a little longer than expected, due to BMW being a little backwards compared to the usual jap stuff I wire. I have two temp sensors in the intake aswell to moniter air temp and charge temp, and trim if need be. The car now runs and idles nice, but with an intermitant CAS/Trigger error on startup. Drove it around the block once, sorry no dose yet The brakes are a Grand Vitara 1 inch master and 8 inch booster, with a modified shaft and slotted firewall to suit the E30. Lines almost lined up, and with the aid of a little loop of brake line and an adapter, all is well. |

It is green
I am not sure of the colour but I know it isn't a standard one. Adds to the sleeper appeal I drove it for 50km today, tuned it in that time and it is going very strong! |
