the oil filter is actually still really easy to get to... I'm waiting to do the filter change so I can install my last nut on the head stud, lol.
I'll post vids later today maybe... it's decent at idle, at WOT it screams. The corner workers at the track I go to called it beautiful BMW straight 6 music though, so I guess if it's at 2,000rpm or less it sounds good, and 6,000rpm or more it sounds good, lol.

They look like really nice headers but that muffler must really crackle a lot.

I have the setup that you will have : Bav Auto headers w/deleted cat and a Mark D. 93 octane chip and these are my observations. The car sounds like stock below 2500 rpms and during light throttle, above that it get really raspy and does have a metallic sound to the exhaust. Not ricey as there is that BMW low tone with the rest of the harmonics, as it does have the OEM muffler on it. I think a resonator or cat would mellow out the tone though. At wide open throttle the car screams, and the best way I can describe it is it has that 1960's circa Ferrari sound to it.
The O2 sensor had to be lengthened and I don't know why they put it so far downstream from the headers. A very very small was lost down low in torque @ <2000rpms, but after 2500 a definite gain in torque is gained. It pulls stronger all the way to redline and the engine doesn't feel like it is "wheezing" as much as you get closer to 6000 rpms. I also noticed I gained 1" of vacuum at idle which would confirm the scavenging effect of the headers. Nice combo with the Mark D. chip but like any performance BMW parts you spend a lot for what is gained, as these engines are quite efficient from the factory. Oil filter change looks interesting though........, but it doesn't look that bad in all honesty. |

so I think I'm not the only one who would contribute to a trustworthy member paying to have a before and after dyno test of a set of headers......If we all chipped in $5-10 it could be done for nothing and it is damn sure worth that to get a final DYNO PROVEN answer

I'll be dynoing soon either way, it's just going to be with a MarkD 91 octane chip as well.
I guess I could swap the stock chip back in and dyno it to see what the header/spec exhaust gained if people wanted to chip in... or they can just kinda guesstimate the gains with the Mark D chip in the equation.

http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62068 I want to see how much total power the car makes, but if there was a way to easily dyno again w/ the stock chip, i'd be up for trying it.

I don't want this to die. I'll chip in at this point $20. There damn sure should be other takers to since so many have been interested in headers......If everyone chipped in a few dollars that would help pay for the extra pull.....And we would all benefit from the data

I just don't know if I'd be able to swap ECU's and immediately do another pull. It seems like it needs time to adapt.
I'd have to do a dyno one weekend on the MarkD ecu, then swap and put some miles on the car, then go back the next weekend and do the stock ecu. Unless the dyno pull will be accurate with an immediate swap. The car drives fine after immediately swapping the ECU, it's just the weird idle, so maybe it would work.
